NOW HIRING Family and Education Minister

Definition:  Under direction of the Senior Pastor, oversees the children’s ministry pre-K through 5th grade including Sunday school curriculum and education, Vacation Bible School and other ministries focused on children and families with children.  

POSITION MAYBE FULL OR PART TIME. SALARY DEPENDANT ON EXPERIENCE

Tasks:

  • Develop and implement Christian education programs for children, including Sunday school programs, Vacation Bible School and other pre-K through 5th grade programs.
  • Select appropriate curriculum and materials to support these programs.
  • Oversee nursery making sure that nursery is properly staffed and workers are properly trained and certified.
  • Recruit, train and guide volunteers for the Children’s ministry.
  • Submit a weekly plan of action for review and approval.
  • Work with Senior Pastor to established goals for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Account for all daily activities by utilizing a planner, journal or other similar tool.
  • Performance will be measured by accomplishment of goals, increase in participants in children and family ministry programs.  
  • Communicate with congregation to encourage support for participation in the Children’s ministry. 
  • Plan and organize events that support the Children’s ministry including fellowship and outreach activities.
  • Work with Outreach Committee to plan activities, ministry and events to attract and retain families.
  • Assist Worship Committee with Acolyte and other liturgical activities as needed.
  • Assist with Sunday worship service as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned for efficient operation of the church.

 Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Other Characteristics:

  • A passion for growing faith in children.
  • Experience and skills working with children as a teacher. Leader or Christian education worker, preferably in a church environment. 
  • Experience selecting and designing Christian curriculum and programs.
  • Experience using the internet and social networking.
  • Strong organizational, project management and communication skills.
  • Must obtain and maintain membership in First United Methodist Artesia.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and presentation programs, MS Office preferred.
