Youth Minister: Scott Randal Gray (Scott)

Sycamore is the new name of the Student Ministry here at FUMC Artesia! The name comes from the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19. The 4 main thoughts behind the name are as follows. 1. God is at work, in the world and also in each of our individual lives. 2. We are small, knowing this we see that God is big and we are just a small part of the bigger picture of God. 3. We need a clear view of God, just as Zacchaeus climbed the sycamore tree to see Jesus we must also get above the things of this world and in our lives that keep us from seeing Jesus clearly. 4. We are all sinners in need of a Savior, in Romans 3:23 it says we have all sinned and fallen short of God's glory but God's gift to us is salvation through his Son Jesus Christ (our Savior).
Our main meeting time is on Sunday nights! We meet in our education building in the Youth Room. Mid High (6th - 8th graders) meet from 5pm to 6pm for games and a lesson. We then have a joint snack supper for all students in 6th - 12th grades at 6pm. Followed by Senior High (9th-12th grades) from 6:30-7:30pm. There is also a weekly Bible study for students in 9th-12th grades at 7pm at Scott's house.
We have other special events throughout the year ranging from an occasional lock in to swim parties to special nights of Worship! Our summers are centered around 2 Mission Trips a summer, one for students in 6th-8th grades and one for Students in 9th-12th grades.
If you have any questions or would like to inquire about any of the events we participate in please feel free to contact our Youth Minister Scott Gray through the email here on the ministry page or through his email listed on his staff page.
